Cirrhosis and liver cancer are among the leading causes of death in Vietnam, with some of the highest incidence rates in the Asia-Pacific region. Early diagnosis plays a crucial role in treatment and improving the quality of life for patients. In a collective effort to address this challenge, M2BPGi – a blood biomarker test – promises a breakthrough in the early diagnosis of liver cancer and cirrhosis.
* M2BPGi – Breakthrough diagnostic technology
M2BPGi (Mac-2 Binding Protein Glycosylation Isomer) is a substance produced very early in liver cell development, especially in the liver cells of people with chronic hepatitis. Serum M2BPGi levels correlate with the stage of liver fibrosis, helping to assess the degree of fibrosis and detect hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) early with high accuracy. This is a relatively simple blood test that provides quick results, making it a powerful tool for physicians to determine the degree of liver fibrosis, predict disease prognosis, and forecast liver cancer. The outstanding advantages of this method are its accuracy, non-invasiveness, safety, and convenience for patients compared to traditional liver biopsy.
Multicenter research – International collaboration
Bach Mai Hospital is participating in an international multi-center study on M2BPGi. The study involves 14 leading medical centers in Asia, including Japan, Thailand, Singapore, and Vietnam. Bach Mai Hospital is one of three representatives from Vietnam participating in this international project.
The research is expected to:
- Improving the ability to diagnose cirrhosis and liver cancer early in Vietnam.
- It helps develop more individualized and effective treatment protocols.
- Contributing to a reduction in liver cancer mortality rates and improving public health.
Through its participation in this international research, Bach Mai Hospital affirms its pioneering role in applying modern medical technology, contributing to improving the quality of diagnosis and treatment of liver diseases in Vietnam.
