INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE 2025 WITH PARTICIPATION OF VIGES MEMBERS

The 2025 International Scientific Conference, themed “Knowledge Sharing – International Integration,” concluded on May 17, 2025, at the Summer Vinh Conference Center in Nghe An province. The event brought together 1,200 delegates from 12 countries, along with representatives from the Ministry of Health, the People's Committee of Nghe An province, and central hospitals. Members of the Vietnam Society of Interventional Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (VIGES) presented four papers at the conference.
 
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Cong Long, Director of the Center for Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Bach Mai Hospital, participated as a member of the Presiding Committee for thematic sessions No. 1 and No. 2. Associate Professor Long hoped that the reports would provide useful knowledge and experience, helping colleagues in Vinh in particular and delegates interested in attending the International Scientific Conference in general.

MSc. Dr. Nguyen The Phuong – Member of the VIGES Executive Board, Deputy Head of the VIGES Gastrointestinal Pathology Department, Head of the Upper Gastroenterology Department (Gastroenterology - Hepatology Center, Bach Mai Hospital)
     MSc. Dr. Nguyen The Phuong presented on "Updates on H. Pylori Treatment in Vietnam 2025". The report highlighted the situation of H. pylori resistance in Vietnam, with primary resistance rates exceeding 15% against most antibiotics, and a rising trend in children.
     The doctor presented the indications for H. pylori testing and eradication according to the Maastricht VI 2022 consensus and the recommendations of the American Gastroenterological Society (ACG), along with appropriate treatment regimens in the context of current antibiotic resistance.
MSc. Dr. Nguyen The Phuong suggested prioritizing the use of a 4-drug regimen containing bismuth in initial H. pylori eradication treatment, and optimizing the treatment regimen to reduce the risk of failure.

     MSc. Dr. Nguyen Minh Ngoc presented on "Multidisciplinary collaboration in the diagnosis and treatment of HCC". The report addressed multidisciplinary consultation (MDT) in making treatment decisions for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
     Doctors presented data from 1,149 HCC patients who underwent multidisciplinary consultations at Bach Mai Hospital from September 2017 to December 2024, showing that the median overall survival time was 81.1 ± 6.2 months, with a cumulative survival rate of 85% after 1 year, 71% after 3 years, and 65% after 5 years.
MSc. Dr. Nguyen Minh Ngoc introduced treatment methods at Bach Mai Hospital, such as RFA (radiofrequency ablation) technique and the combined Lenvatinib and TACE (LEN-TACE) treatment regimen for patients with advanced-stage HCC.

Dr. Nguyen Thanh Tung, a member of VIGES, is a physician at the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Center, Bach Mai Hospital.
     Dr. Nguyen Thanh Tung presented two reports at the conference. The first report, "IBD and Pregnant Women," addressed the management of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in pregnant women. He presented the stages of managing IBD patients during pregnancy, including the pre-pregnancy, pregnancy, labor, and postpartum periods. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Tung emphasized the importance of achieving remission before pregnancy to reduce the risk of complications such as premature birth, low birth weight, or stillbirth.
     In the second report on “The Role of ERCP in the Diagnosis of Biliary Stenosis,” MSc. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Tung focused on the diagnosis and management of idiopathic biliary strictures (IBDS). He introduced tissue sampling techniques such as cholangioscopy and guided cholangiography. MSc. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Tung shared his experience at Bach Mai Hospital, providing initial data on cholangioscopy using Spyglass DSII and fluoroscopy-enhanced cholangiography biopsy with the Wire-grasper technique.

The 2025 International Scientific Conference is a forum for connecting knowledge, scientific research, and international cooperation. With over 50 speakers from many countries, the conference helps to update global medical trends and apply modern technology to clinical practice.
